LA County Approved SimplyHelp to receive its Surplus Equipment

The Warehouse will be open for donation drop-off this Sunday, June 14th 2pm-4pm.

Address:

14940 E. Don Julian Rd.

City of Industry,  CA 91748

SimplyHelp received exciting news this week!

The County of Los Angeles has approved SimplyHelp to receive surplus equipment from LA County!

This means that SimplyHelp is eligible to receive all furniture, computers, stationary and other office related things that LA County office’s don’t need anymore.

SimplyHelp can also request anything else it needs – often different departments in the County have access to different kinds of equipment/appliances/ clothes/food etc.

This is very exciting because it assures that SimplyHelp will be able to continue to provide people in need with the donations they need.

Other exciting news: Carol has established a SimplyHelp branch in Thailand!

Carol has been very successful in charity work in the past and we are sure she’ll do the same for SimplyHelp Thailand.

Thank you Carol!

If anyone has friends or family in Thailand that would like to join the new SimplyHelp branch there, please get in contact with me.

Please continue to check our website (www.simplyhelp.org) it changes regularly, and let us know your comments.

Correction: In last weeks news letter I mentioned SimplyHelp’s donation to FUNAG.

FUNAG is located in Honduras, not in El Salvador.

Have a wonderful week,

Shoes for Nicaraguan Children

The Warehouse will be closed this Sunday due to Memorial day weekend.

Tina and Cathy have returned from their trip to Honduras and Nicaragua.

They have distributed donations to Hondurans living in poverty, together with the First Lady of Honduras.

They also met with the president of a wonderful Honduran NGO called ‘FUNAG’. FUNAG has been successfully helping Honduran people in need for years. SimplyHelp promised to send them a container with donations, which has been sent out this weekend.  In other words: The trip was very successful.

After Honduras Tina and Cathy travelled to Nicaragua for a project assessment and were struck by the poverty they encountered.

Tina and Cathy were saddened by the high number of children walking barefoot.

SimplyHelp intends to provide these children with a pair of good shoes to walk on.

If you know of any tennis shoe manufactorer whom might be interested in working with SimplyHelp on this project, please get in contact with me or Tina.

We would like to thank four special people this week, for their help.

Karen Hao volunteers every Monday at the office and is helping us researching the countries we are active in, as well as organizing the information about SimplyHelp’s activities in countries over the years.

Thank you Karen!

Wing Leung and Steve Lee volunteer many, many Sunday afternoons. They are in charge of the warehouse. They open and close the warehouse for SimplyHelp and help packing the donations.

Thank you Steve and Wing!

Jane Huang volunteers every other Thursday at the office and help us with our finances.

Thank you Jane!

Tina and Ms. Ling, a SimplyHelp volunteer, returned Sunday from a very successful trip to El Salvador

SimplyHelp attended the opening celebration of the Vocational Training Center for Women in La Libertad, distributed donations to people living in poverty and signed papers that mark the start of the construction of the 3rd SimplyHelp Senior Center.

The opening of the Vocational Training Center for Women was very successful. The center has a capacity of 180 students, whom will be able to follow classes in cosmetology, gastronomy, baking, sewing, bar tending, maid services. The center has a daycare for the children of attending mothers.

The center is located in a rural area with a rapidly increasing tourist industry. Students graduating from the Vocational Training Center will be able to start working right away in local hotels, bakeries, tailoring shops and beauty salons.

After the opening ceremony Tina and Ms. Ling distributed 300 gift bags filled with clothes, food and toys to local people living in poverty.

Another 300 gift bags were distributed the next day to people living in poverty in Cojutapeque.  On the same day SimplyHelp signed papers that mark the beginning of the construction of the 3rd SimplyHelp Senior Center in Cojutapeque.

Pictures of the trip will be posted on the front page of the SimplyHelp website tomorrow.  Please visit www.simplyhelp.org

*Tina is going to El Salvador*

The warehouse will be closed this Easter Sunday.

Tina will go to El Salvador this Sunday, together with a SimplyHelp volunteer, and they have a busy schedule in ahead of them.

April 14th the Vocational Training Center for Women will open in the city La Libertad. Tina will be there for the opening together with Dona Elly and her Comite de Proyeccion Social.

Second on the agenda is distribution of the donations we recently packed and shipped to El Salvador

. She will distribute the donations together with Dona Elly in a poor rural area in El Salvador.

Third on the agenda is our third Senior Center for homeless elderly. The first two centers in the city Cojutapeque are so successful that the Major of this city has donated land to build a third one.

A third one is much needed, as the existing two centers are currently over populated. Due to lack of space, some elderly are coming to the center to eat and get medical care, after which they have to leave again.

So, we are very excited to get this project started. The estimated total cost will be $25 000. We have currently raised the first $12 500.

If you would like to contribute to building this center and providing elderly with a safe and loving home – please make a donation and let us know it’s for the 3rd Senior Center in El Salvador.

Have a wonderful Easter weekend,

Lotte

Taiwan Center Recycling Event Great Success!

The warehouse will be openfor donation drop-off this Sunday, from 2pm-4pm.

As a reminder, the address:

14940 E. Don Julian Rd.

City of Industry, CA91748

If you have some time this Sunday, please stop by at the warehouse to help sort out the truck load full of donations Wing and Steve collected during last weekends recycling event.

The recycling event, organized by the Taiwan Center in Rosemead , was fantastic.

The Taiwan Center organizes a donation drop-off weekend twice a year and selects one charity organization to give all the donations to.

This year SimplyHelp was selected.

Wing and Steve were present to receive the donations, which were dropped off throughout the day.  In Wing’s words:

“For the whole day long, people just kept coming, dropping their unwanted/outdated
household appliances, such as computers, monitors, old TV, microwaves etc, and at the
same time, also dropping clothing and other household items for SimplyHelp. For the
two-day event, I estimated there were about 300 people stopped by for the donations.

Since the feedback was quite positive, the person in charge at Taiwan Centerthought that in the future, they can co-operate with SimplyHelp and continue with this kind of event. The objective is not only to help protecting the environment, but also can give a hand to the people who need help in poor countries.”

Last but not least, we need sewing material for our school in El Salvador. If you happen to have any fabric or other sewing materials, or you know of a factory that supplies these materials – please let us know.

Thank you and have a wonderful Thursday,

Lotte
