I am writing you this news letter from beautiful El Salvador.
People’s lives here are hard. The disparity between our good lives and their harsh lives is absurd.
Let’s always be grateful for things we take for granted: Shelter, warm showers, food, access to education, the ability to drop $3 on Starbuck’s coffee, several times a week, without even thinking about it….
SimplyHelp has opened the 3rd Senior Center, housing 36 (formerly) homeless elderly in Cojutepeque, and celebrated the graduation of the first group of students that attended the Vocational Training Center in San Salvador, which was opened last June.
- The Senior Center is in need of big pots and pans, folding chairs, a microwave, television and new blankets. If you can, please help the elderly and donate one of these items (new).
Besides all these exiting celebrations, I am evaluating all SimplyHelp’s projects from the past 9 years in El Salvador.
The stories I hear from alumni’s of SimplyHelp’s schools are humbling and heartwarming.
I will share these with you over the coming weeks. Today I’d like to tell a little bit more about the Senior Center’s.
SimplyHelp donated the money to build all three Senior Centers. Pastor Soto’s church members are the ones whom largely build the Senior Centers – for free.
Men, women and children spend months, donating their time, labor and sweat to erect the building and provide 50 homeless elderly, 70, 80 and 90 years old, with a home.
The church members don’t stop there.
They wash and clean the elderly. They cook three meals a day for them. They take them to the doctor. They do fun activities with them. And when they pass away, they give them a beautiful church service and burry them. All for Free.
And mind you, many of these church members are extremely poor themselves – jobless, some of them homeless – helping each other through life.
- The warehouse will be open for donation drop-off this Sunday, from 1pm-4pm.
Warehouse address:
14940 E. Don Julian Road
City of Industry, CA 91748
